Discover the various techniques and styles used in kitchen design.

Kitchen design is one of the most important topics that must be highlighted because the kitchen is one of the most important architectural spaces in residential buildings, especially for the woman of the house, as she spends a long time preparing food for her family members, and its role is not limited to being just a room for preparing food only. You have a dining room too.

Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to it from several aspects in order to provide a space equipped with the best technologies that facilitate work in it and achieve comfort and safety, including attention to the foundations of interior design and how to deal with different spaces. Choosing appropriate storage units that allow maximum exploitation of small spaces, as well as distributing appliances and choosing appropriate and practical colors and materials

Basics of architectural design

1. The kitchen space must be sufficient, and narrow spaces should be avoided to ensure comfortable movement in it.
2. When designing a house, it is preferable to have a kitchen near the dining room or interior living room to provide privacy.
3. It is preferable to place the kitchen near the entrance of the house. It allows homeowners carrying kitchen supplies to enter without going through the guest room.
4. Good advice: Avoid placing kitchens on the facade directly facing the air prevailing in the city to avoid the formation of an air current that leads to food odors entering the house.
5. The kitchen must be connected to a skylight or be on the back or side facade of the house so that the sewage and supply pipes are not on the main facade of the house.
6. The location of the kitchen door and window is determined according to the best distribution of the motion triangle.
7. You must take care of it with ventilation and natural light through the window, an area not less than 10% of the kitchen area.
8. It is preferable to provide it with a balcony to hang clothes if there is a washing machine in the kitchen.

2: Basics of kitchen interior design
The basic rule for designing any kitchen is to maintain a triangle of movement within the kitchen.
It is known that the kitchen is a place where there is a lot of movement, and whatever the shape and space of your kitchen, it is always preferable to take into account when designing what is known as the work or movement triangle. This rule is the most famous and is followed in kitchen design in order to achieve greater speed and flexibility while working in the kitchen. It makes better use of space, reduces movement within the kitchen, and limits it to only the important and necessary.

This triangle allows at least two people to use the kitchen simultaneously for two different purposes without disturbing each other as they move around the kitchen.

What is the triangle of motion?
There are three basic elements in the kitchen:

Washing place (wash)
Cooking place (cook)
Food and drink storage space (refrigerator)
These elements form the three vertices of the triangle so that the sides of the triangle are measured from the center of each of the wash basin, refrigerator, and butane.
So that the refrigerator is closest to the door so that those wishing to use it do not have to enter the kitchen.
The sink is located closest to the light or window, and the stove is located closest to the ventilation source.
To obtain the best results, it is preferable that the circumference of the triangle range from 4 to 8 meters, and that each side of the triangle should not be less than 1.25 meters and not more than 2.75 meters.

After we learned about the most famous rule in kitchen design,

Are there other rules for movement in the kitchen?
The answer is yes.
Many recent studies have shown that in order to achieve the best results that provide the best performance with the least effort, an alternative eye shape to the triangle is needed, where each side has its own peculiarity, and the elements of the kitchen are distributed on its four sides as follows:
Prime Rib: The dry preparation area that does not require the use of water
Second side: wet preparation area
On the third side, the cooking area surrounds the stove, gas oven, and accessories.
Fourth rib: The food serving area surrounds the refrigerator and freezer.

Third: Different types of kitchens and their standard dimensions according to the architect’s lens
1. Standard kitchen dimensions:
The legal minimum space for any kitchen is three square meters (3 m2) with a minimum width of about 120 cm and a minimum length of about 250 cm. This space can be a square (1.73 * 1.73 m) or a rectangle (1.50 * 2.00 m). This space is, of course, in economical housing units with limited space.
If we want to design a medium kitchen, a suitable kitchen with an area of six square meters (6 m2) and dimensions (2.00 * 3.00 m) is suitable for a small family.
We can also add other features to a large space, such as a corner for quick eating, a table, or a counter, but the space must not increase.
Movement triangle in the kitchen, about 2 meters (2 m) per side, so that movement inside it is not too cumbersome.

2: Types of kitchens:
There are different types of kitchens determined by the space allocated to them, including:
Single-wall kitchen: It is widely used in small spaces whose width does not exceed 1.60 m, where all storage units, as well as the refrigerator, stove, and washing sink, are placed on one wall with a corridor in front of them for movement.
The second parallel kitchen is used in rectangular kitchens whose width is not less than 2.40 m, where storage units and various appliances are distributed on two parallel walls separated by a movement corridor while maintaining the movement triangle.
Letter Shape KitchenWeb Applications (L) It is the moving triangle’s most widely used and practical shape. It can be easily used in square or rectangular kitchens, and the storage units and various appliances are placed on two vertical walls in the shape of the letter L.
A U-shaped shape is used in large and medium spaces of at least 10 m2, where various storage units and appliances are placed on three U-shaped sides while maintaining a triangle of movement.
Open kitchen It may be in any of the previous forms, but it is not a closed room but rather an open room connected to the dining or living room with a counter or a dealing window.
Island kitchen It is used in large spaces, and the various storage units and appliances are often distributed in an L or U shape, with a table in the middle.
